International Finance Olympiad (IFO) Annual Summary

Executive Overview

The International Finance Olympiad (IFO) is an annual competition in finance and economics for secondary school students worldwide, run across a global qualification round and an invitation-only International Final. IFO 2026 was the largest season in the competition's history: 1,046 students from 59 countries and regions and 527 schools and institutions took part, and 36 finalists from 17 national and regional teams reached the International Final.

Competition Scale

IFO 2026 more than tripled its participation year over year, growing from 288 students in 2025 to 1,046 students in 2026 (+263%) — a record for the competition — while the number of participating countries and regions expanded from 32 to 59. Behind those students stood 534 advisors and 527 schools and institutions, and 36 of them advanced to the International Final.

The 2026 IFO Experience

The 2026 International Finance Olympiad was contested over two rounds, both delivered entirely online: an open global qualification round, and an invitation-only International Final of two advanced modules.

Two Rounds of IFO Experience

Round 1

Comprehensive Objective Test

Date: August 22, 2026, 19:00–21:30 (designated continental local time)
Duration: 150 minutes
Format: 300 objective questions
Delivery: Entirely online through the dedicated examination system
Entry: Open to all registered secondary school students, each contesting individually
Assessment Focus: Financial literacy, quantitative reasoning, and data interpretation
Progression: Top scorers from each country or region advance to the International Final
Round 2

International Final

Dates: September 12 – 13, 2026 (designated continental local time)
Module 1 — Integrated Objective Test: 120 minutes, 5 reading materials, 100 objective questions, 200 points
Module 2 — Advanced Thinking: 180 minutes, 1 case material, 5 short-answer questions, 40 points each, 200 points
Delivery: Entirely online through dedicated examination system
Teams Represented: 17 national and regional teams, 36 finalists in total
